New rules regulating VAT invoicing (Directive 2010/45/EU) entered into force on 1 January 2013. Member States were obliged to transpose this Directive by the beginning of 2013, but Cyprus has not notified the Commission of any measures it has taken to do so. The request is in the form of a Reasoned Opinion. In the absence of a satisfactory response within two months, the Commission may refer Cyprus to the EU's Court of Justice.

Internetconsultatie Wet implementatie EU-richtlijn gegevensuitwisseling cryptoactiva (DAC8)
Het Ministerie van Financiën is een internetconsultatie gestart over de Wet implementatie EU-richtlijn gegevensuitwisseling cryptoactiva (DAC8). De internetconsultatie betreft de implementatie van de Europese DAC8-richtlijn van 17 oktober 2023 (Richtlijn (EU) 2023/2226) in de Nederlandse wet. De Europese DAC8-richtlijn is de zevende wijziging van de DAC-richtlijn en dient op 1 januari 2026 in werking te treden.
Acceptatieplicht contant geld treedt mogelijk later in werking
Het door de Tweede Kamer aangenomen amendement met een acceptatieplicht voor contant geld (V-N 2024/44.22) is vanwege een aantal uitwerkingskwesties voor advies voorgelegd aan de Europese Centrale Bank (ECB). Ook is begonnen met de voorbereidingen voor een uitvoeringsbesluit, zodat de voorgestelde acceptatieplicht zo spoedig mogelijk in werking kan treden. Dat schrijft de Minister Heijnen van Financiën aan de Tweede Kamer.
EU-Rekenkamer ziet slecht te controleren staatssteun in Nederland
De Europese Rekenkamer noemt Nederland als voorbeeld van een land waar het moeilijk valt te controleren of terecht staatssteun is uitgekeerd.
Nationale lagere rechters zijn bevoegd om BPM aan EU-recht te toetsen
Hof Den Haag oordeelt dat de lagere rechters verplicht zijn om het nationale recht in situaties waarin het EU-recht van toepassing zoveel mogelijk in overeenstemming met het EU-recht uit te leggen en de beginselen daarvan te respecteren.

Onderzoek naar Europese belasting voor veelvliegers
Een belasting voor frequente vliegers in heel Europa zou de inkomsten uit luchtvaartbelastingen verhogen tot € 64 miljard, zo blijkt uit een onderzoek van CE Delft in opdracht van onder meer Stay Grounded, een milieu-netwerkorganisatie die het vliegverkeer wil minderen. Uit het rapport blijkt ook dat een heffing op frequent vliegen zou resulteren in een daling van 21 procent in de luchtvaartemissies, voornamelijk omdat slechts 5 procent van de mensen – de meest frequente vliegers – minder vaak zou vliegen.

Antigua en Barbuda is geschrapt van de EU-zwarte lijst. Dit heeft de Raad van de EU op 8 oktober 2024 besloten.
