None of the measures was notified to the Commission, who was alerted by concerned citizens. The Commission has concerns that these measures provided significant advantages to the beneficiary clubs to the detriment of the clubs which have to operate without such support. The Commission will firstly investigate possible tax privileges for Real Madrid CF, Barcelona CF, Athletic Club Bilbao, and Club Atlético Osasuna. In another inquiry it will assess whether a widely reported land transfer between the City of Madrid and the club Real Madrid CF involved any state aid in favour of the club. Finally, it will examine the compliance with EU state aid rules of guarantees given by the State-owned Valencia Institute of Finance for loans that were used to finance the three Valencia clubs Valencia CF, Hercules CF and Elche CF, while those clubs were seemingly undergoing financial difficulties.

Europese CO2-belasting gaat ook gelden voor wasmachines van buiten EU
Wasmachines van buiten de EU krijgen binnenkort te maken met een Europese grensbelasting voor CO2-uitstoot. Eurocommissaris Hoekstra voor Klimaat en Schone Groei heeft 17 december 2025 laten weten dat de belasting die al gold voor bijvoorbeeld aluminium en staal met ingang van 2026 wordt uitgebreid naar producten waarin veel van die materialen zijn verwerkt.
Het verwachte fiscale belang van een trailing tax, een verlengde belastingplicht in de inkomstenbelasting na emigratie, bedraagt circa € 16 tot € 38 miljoen, afhankelijk van de gekozen variant en duur van de maatregel. Dat schrijft staatssecretaris Heijnen van Financiën aan de Tweede Kamer naar aanleiding van het vervolgonderzoek trailing tax.
Brussel ziet af van volledig verbod verbrandingsmotor auto 2035
Er komt geen volledig verbod meer op nieuw geproduceerde auto's met een verbrandingsmotor in de EU per 2035. De Europese Commissie heeft een herziening gepresenteerd, waarin nieuw geproduceerde auto's niet volledig emissieloos moeten zijn, maar 90% minder CO2 moeten uitstoten vergeleken met 2021. Daardoor blijft er ruimte voor autofabrikanten om hybride auto's op de Europese markt te brengen.
